Respite Worker #RW-EX18

Wesway is a local, non-profit organization which provides personalized respite services for families who are caring for a family member with a disability or chronic health condition. Wesway offers a dynamic team-oriented work environment and we are currently seeking applicants for the following position:

Respite Worker #RW-EX18

Wesway is seeking a small team of Respite Workers who can provide consistent support to an outgoing and friendly 11-year-old girl. The participant has Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, an Intellectual Disability and struggles with high anxiety, a Responsive Behavioural Support Plan in in place. She enjoys crafts, music, books, and self-soothing activities like swinging and jumping. The participant does not require any support with personal care.  

Starting Wage Range: $19.42 – $20.85 per hour  (plus 17.5% in lieu of benefits)


The successful candidate will possess:

  • Previous experience supporting people with a disability or chronic health condition (volunteer, work-related, education or life experiences)
  • Positive attitude and dependability
  • Respect for each individual’s strengths, abilities and personal choice
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Access to a reliable vehicle, as respite will take place out in the community.
  • A current criminal reference check (completed under vulnerable sector service) provided upon a conditional offer of employment and deemed satisfactory by Wesway.
  • Wesway will arrange mandatory training on successful support strategies.
  • Ability to confidently support a child who has challenging behaviours. and closely follow the support strategies is a must.
  • Knowledge of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and Oppositional Defiance Disorder would be an asset.

Hours of Work

25 hours per week. Additional hours/shifts may be added if support model is successful. Respite will occur out of home at one of Wesway’s Respite Home locations.
