Eligibility Family Services Volunteering Giving To Wesway Feature Story

"Over the years, I have heard so much from my clients and others in the community about the valuable services provided by Wesway. Unfortunately, I really don't have the time to participate as a volunteer, but I am more than happy to contribute to Wesway's future by making financial donations. I would urge others to support this important community organization."

Who is Eligible for Respite Care?

Wesway serves families of people with special needs of all ages. To be eligible for care, individuals must:

  • Live with a family caregiver.
  • Reside within the City of Thunder Bay or the immediate rural area.
  • Have a developmental or physical disability, Alzheimer Disease or a related dementia, resulting in a significant dependence on a family caregiver.

Wesway’s services are free for eligible families. Families may contact us directly to request respite services, or be referred by other community agencies.

At Wesway, we listen. Personalized service plans are built on the individual strengths, needs and preferences of each family. Based on available resources, we make every effort to provide the services families need.

After annual service plans are approved, families can call their Respite Workers or volunteers directly to arrange for respite care.

No one can predict when an emergency might occur – a death, illness or other serious situations. Wesway strives to meet difficult challenges by providing crisis respite support when families need it most.
